Ian has worked across a broad range of drama in film and television.  A firm believer in filmmaking as a collaborative art, he started off as an assistant director with Bill Forsyth and went on to assist directors such as Michael Radford, Richard Eyre, David Hare, before ending that part of his career with Danny Boyle on “SHALLOW GRAVE”. 

He then moved on to producing and credits include David Kane’s first film “RUFFIAN HEARTS”,  Lennie James’s “STORM DAMAGE” and Rona Munro’s “BUMPING THE ODDS”,  all of which were nominated for BAFTA awards. 

He further diversified into directing with credits as second unit director on films such as “ELIZABETH” directed by Shekhar Kapur, “TWIN TOWN”, “THE ESCAPIST” and “MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS”, written by Jimmy McGovern and directed by Gillies Mackinnon.

Ian directed  “MISSING”  a two-part drama for ITV about a young woman wrongly accused of being a serial killer.  He has directed several episodes of the long-running ITV cop show “TAGGART”, two of which he also wrote.    Click on the banners above to see film clips of his work.
